Site Investigation Liverpool

SGL support a development in Liverpool with a legacy of former Brownfield use. Site Investigation Liverpool considered a complex land contamination assessment.

A 1.5 hectare site is being considered for a future industrial development. The site has been dormant for years because of constraints associated with pollution present in the ground. Year ago, the site was used as a chemical plant. The chemical processing was conducted over three decades. By-products and spillages had entered into the ground over the years polluting the soils and groundwater.

Site Investigation Liverpool had determined that the soils beneath the site could cause harm if not appropriately managed.

SGL determined a series of target pollutants beneath the site and these relate to volatiles and organic compounds. The concentrations recorded in the investigation could potentially harm construction workers, future employees and users of surrounding land.

Site Investigation Liverpool has been completed and therefore an options appraisal has been development. This process has allowed for a “clean-up” strategy to be prepared. The remedial works proposed aim to reduce the current risks, and make the site safe and fit for purpose.

As part of the remedials being considered, SGL are recommending placement of a vapour barrier system and a hydrocarbon resistant membrane beneath the new factory. This will stop the build-up and release of harmful volatiles entering the building and causing harm.

Where possible, SGL have attempted to limit the offsite disposal (to landfill) of contaminated soils by presenting an innovative and sustainable approach to remediating the site.

Site Investigation Liverpool – If you have a site in the area that requires investigation, SGL are here to help by assisting your build.
