Spire Geotechnical Ltd (SGL) reflects on its main office location along the River Wear

Spire Geotechnical Sunderland – On such a calm and peaceful early autumn day, SGL take in the scenery outside of its Sunderland office.

SGL are positioned in the heart of the St Peter’s area of the City of Sunderland. Our neighbours include the main Sunderland University Campus, The National Glass Centre, the Port of Sunderland and Sunderland Marina.

Outside of the office, there are a number of tracks, trails and walkways along the river. It is difficult to image what life was like along the Wear not so long ago. Sunderland is famous as one of, if not the, greatest ship building area. Sunderland also has a rich history of glass making through to mining. The River Wear has been central to Sunderland’s industrial past.

Whilst the traditions of glass making continue to this day, sadly the heavy industry and mining has ceased. Further upstream, the main coal pit has been transformed with the development of the Stadium of Light, swimming centre and and related facilities. The office is only a stones throw away from the new Sheepfolds development.

The St Peter’s area is fresh and modern hub of activities relating to higher education, e-commerce and leisure. Spire Geotechnical Sunderland are proud to be located here at St Peter’s. We are also proud to embrace the cities rich heritage and traditions. Exciting times lie ahead for Sunderland and SGL look forward to contributing to future development in the city.

With the location of Sunderland University opposite our office, SGL is keen to hear from graduates from the university who specialise in Earth Science. For recruitment, please contact our Engineering Director at Michelle@spire-geo.com.
